Season 1 Episode 1 "Rose"

Yup, that's pretty much how it went.  But here are the details... an episode by episode review from a newbie.

Let's just start with I am no stranger to the geek culture.  My primary fandoms being Firefly, Tolkien, and Harry Potter.  There are tons of others then don't even get me started on Renaissance or Steampunk.

So I heard so many people mention Doctor Who, and when I ask I always go the same "You just have to watch it to find out"

So after watching Firefly for the hundredth time on Netflix (yes I have it on DVD, but it was on Netflix) and yes, I mean the entire season. I wanted to watch something differant, so Doctor Who was on my suggestion list and I brought it up.

Yes, I did start with the 9th doctor.  So here we go, my newbie review of Season 1 episode 1 "Rose".

"Huh?!?!?"

Okay so plastic taking over the world was about as laughable as Captain Kirk feeling the need to pull his shirt off in every fight.

I really liked some of the humor in it, and the fact that Rose is a strong female character.

While on the topic of Rose I don't understand how people make her out to be a damsel in distress.  She basically saves the Doctor and the world with some fancy gymnastics while her boyfriend cowered. Even if it weren't for that, earlier in the episode when she finds that her boyfriend has been replaced by plastic she has the presence of mind to hit the fire alarm and start telling people to leave the building.

Over all, first episode was a bit unimpressive.  For some reason I felt the need to watch the next one, but that is another post.
